A meaningful collaboration rooted in a shared affinity for abstraction and minimalism.

MINIM.AL – FROM SOL TO NOW
This year, iCOON once again pays tribute to a pioneer of minimalist art from the 1960s. In 2025, the focus is on Sol LeWitt — the American artist who radically reshaped conceptual art and minimalism.

In collaboration with Marleen van Wijngaarden, founder of Murals Inc., iCOON has selected five Rotterdam-based artists and designers whose abstract work resonates with LeWitt’s spirit: Nanna van Heest, Jelmer Noordeman, Ropp Schouten, Sigmund de Jong, and Joep Brouwer.

The first four will create one or more murals, both inside and outside the spaces of iCOON. Joep Brouwer’s sculptural interventions will connect the four exhibition areas into a unified whole.

The artists approach LeWitt’s formal principles as tools for contemporary reflection — not to reconstruct, but to reposition. In doing so, abstraction, structure, and space are reimagined within today’s dynamic context.
